The Hickory Stick Bookshop is an independent book shop which has been located in Washington Depot for over 70 years. Are you looking for a particular title or are you hoping for the unexpected? We pride ourselves on timely and interesting displays reflecting what is going in the world at any one time. We have a great selection of books for everyone in the family, children's learning activities, toys, puzzles, games, calendars, greeting cards, journals, postcards, book accessories, hickory walking sticks (perfect for hiking in the nearby Steep Rock preserve) and gift items such as Baggallini bags, local yarn, picture frames, and soy candles. We're also a great stopping off point if you're a Gilmore Girls fan! The fictional town of Stars Hollow is based on Washington, Connecticut after Amy Sherman-Palladino, the writer of the ever popular series, stayed at the Mayflower Inn while creating the pilot. The fascination with the TV show is ever present and we welcome hundreds of Gilmore Girls fans to the store every year.
